Exploring Henley on Thames
Henley lies in a pretty valley at the southern end of the Chiltern Hills. The surrounding beech covered hillsides contain numerous idyllic English villages, rolling countryside, woodlands, pubs and country houses plus beautiful cycling and walking trails. Within 30 minutes’ drive are a number of pretty market towns and villages, all worth stopping to explore.
Henley also makes a great location for visits to busier tourist towns such as London, Windsor and Oxford.

Greys Court – National Trust owned Tudor era mansion formerly the home of the Brunner family, it includes a 12th century tower.

Stonor House – Still privately owned by the Camoys family as it has been for over 850 years this is a beautiful country house and rolling park land with its own deer herd.

Nuffield Place – Time-capsule home of philanthropist and founder of the British motor car industry William Morris.

Ewelme – Nestled in rolling farmland the village of Ewelme contains beautiful medieval alms houses and an imposing Church containing one of the most interesting tombs you’ll ever see. The Church featured in the blockbuster film Les Miserables.

Hambleden – One of the prettiest villages in England, used in numerous films and TV series.

Old Luxters Brewery & Winery – Set in woodland in the Hambleden Valley, take a brewery tour or sample liqueurs, wines and beers all made on site.

Stoke Row – Pretty Chiltern’s village and home of the Maharajah’s Well gifted to Mr Edward Reede Lieutenant Governor of the Indian Northwestern Provinces in 1864 by the Maharajah of Benares.

Wallingford – Historic riverside country town dating from the Saxon era with interesting shops to explore.

Thame – Bustling market town and a centre for British agriculture, the historic high street contains many quirky shops, pubs and cafes.

The Farmers Market takes place in Henley Market Place the 2nd Saturday, 4th Thursday and 5th Sunday (if there be one) of the month.
